Petrus Stuyvesant director general of New Netherland, together with the honorable councilors, has summoned hereto the court messenger, Claes van Elslant, greetings.

Whereas Tobias Feake, resident of Vlissingen on Long Island, has remonstrated to us by petition that he finds himself greatly injured and aggrieved by the judgment handed down by the honorable court of the village of Vlissingen, dated 5 April, last past,[1] between him and William Hallet for reasons detailed in the attached copy of the petition. For which he requests our assistance.

Therefore, we order and command you to summon the aforesaid William Hallet to appear or to send a deputy before us here in Fort Amsterdam on Thursday, being the 18th of this month in order to respond to such demands and rejoinders which the aforesaid Tobias Feake shall make and effect against him at that time, inviting also those of the aforesaid court to appear or to send deputies on the appointed day (if it pleases them) in order to see us annul or confirm the aforesaid judgment. Proving copies on behalf of the parties and relating what you encounter.[2]

Issued in Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland the 4th of May 1662.
