Before me, Jacob Hendricksen Kip, appointed [ clerk ] here, appeared Jan Hendricksen Steelman, an inhabitant here, who declared, under renunciation of the beneficium, the effect whereof he understands, that he becomes surety as principal for the restitution or payment of all such goods [ and ] merchandise as Cornelis Tomassen and Pieter Pietersen Smith have shipped on board the ship De Bonte Coe, in case the director general and council have any claim thereon, and promises to indemnify their honors for all loss, binding therefor his person and property without any exception, subjecting the same to the jurisdiction of all courts and judges. In testimony whereof I have signed these, this 14th of June A° 1651, New Amsterdam.

Appeared (as before) Benjamin vand'Water, who declared, under renunciation of the beneficium, the effect whereof he understands, that he becomes surety as principal for the restitution or payment of all such goods and merchandise as Govert Loockermans has shipped for his personal account in the ship De Bonte Coe, in case the director general and council have any claim thereon, and promises to indemnify the director and council for all loss, binding therefor his person and property without any exception, under submission to all courts, tribunals and judges In testimony whereof, I have signed this with my own hand, this 14th of June A° 1651, New Amsterdam.
