Nicolaes Coorn, officer[1] in the colony of Renselaerswyc, certifies at the request of the fiscal that Jan Jansen Cuyper told the deponent in conversation that, being in a tavern where there were many persons, he heard in the course of various conversations that Wilcock said to a Swede: “The mine or gold mine which the Dutch have been in search of does not belong to the Dutch, but to the crown of Sweden.” All of which he, Nicolaes, declares to be true. Done the 23rd of October 1645.

[1]: Nicolaes Coorn was on August 26, 1643, commissioned commander and commis of Rensselaers Steyn. Shortly before the date of this document he had succeeded Adriaen van der Donck as officier, or schout, of Rensselaerswijck. See Minutes of the Court of Rensselaerswijck, 1648-52, pp. 10-11.
