Holding Institution Metropolitan Museum of Art Document ID MET-71.160 Description The Newborn Baby, Matthijs Naiveau, Dutch, 1675 Document Date 1675 Translation Translation This painting of a wealthy household in the Netherlands shows the beautiful fabrics, bed drapes, carpets, and embroidered clothing that were readily available in Amsterdam in the 17th Century. New Amsterdam might have looked far simpler, although some wealthier households would have had at least some of these elements. For example, the foot stove to warm feet in cold weather was commonly used in New Netherland.
