1st December 1673.

On the petition of Jan Jansen Veryn, requesting that he be allowed to repair his old fence around his land, lying near the village of New Utreght, which the inhabitants of New Utreght had forbidden him,It is ordered:The Magistrates of the town of New Utreght are directed to allow the Petitioner to proceed with the repairs of his old fence, or else show cause within thrice 24 hours wherefore they prevent the same.

On the complaint of the Magistrates of New Utreght that Jan Jansen Veryn is encroaching on their bounds, the Governor-General hath therefore resolved to refer the examination thereof to Mr. Cornelis van Ruyven and Schout Jacob Strycker who are hereby requested and authorized to inspect the land in question and to hear the arguments on both sides and to examine and if possible reconcile parties, if not to report their decision to the Governor.

Done Fort Willem Hendrick, this 8th December, 1673.

By order of the Governor-General of New Netherland.

(Signed), N. Bayard, Secretary.
