Translation

Received a petition of some farmers and farmhands living in this area, requesting to be allowed to pull the goose.[i]

It is resolved: The request is refused, because it is not only contrary to the edicts of the honorable high and mighty lords States of Holland, but also against the order of the director general and councilors of New Netherland. Dated as above.

[i]: A game in which horseback riders attempted to carry away a greased goose suspended from a pole by grabbing its neck, all of which was accompanied by heavy drinking. In many places it was forbidden.
