The director general and council of New Netherland hereby make known that, upon the remonstrance and petition of the Dutch and English merchants frequenting this place concerning the duties imposed on exported wines, beer, and distilled wines and spirits, they have facilitated and moderated one third part in form as follows: that in order not to annul the leasing arrangement, and not to prejudice the farmer, the seller has to pay the farmer one third; the purchaser one third and the remaining third shall be entered as an offset to the farmer, together with the receiver of the director general and council, so that the buyer and seller each individually has to pay the farmer only,

Thus done at the session of the honorable director general and council held at Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland, the 7th of June 1656.[1]
