Translation

[ The director general and councilors, with the advice of the burgomasters and field officers of the burgher corps, hereby notify and warn everyone ] that from now [ henceforward no person ] shall harbor any wilden [ during the night between this place and ] the Fresh Water, under the penalty of 25 guilders fine for everyone who has lodged a single wilt overnight without a certificate signed by the director general or the secretary. Thus done at the session held in Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland on the 29th of May 1656.[i]
