. . . in confinement [ ] 18 April of this year until now [ ] submitted petitions for the purpose of being released from detention by your honors' order [ ] so that he, the petitioner,[1] may be allowed to convey himself to the Colony of Rensselaerswyck; however, since he, the petitioner, has received on the latest ships from Holland, upon his previous request, the credentials of his office and, at the same time, a successor, he, the petitioner, requests immediate release from the detention where he presently is, and permission to convey himself to the Colony or to the fatherland with these ships which are ready to depart; and whereas the fiscal, Tienhoven, has brought suit against the petitioner, and as of today the petitioner has not been able to respond to it because his papers have been sealed up in his trunk, he, the petitioner, promises, in the event he has access to the aforesaid papers, to empower someone here to represent him in his absence against the fiscal. Thus doing etc.

The director and council refer to their response dated 2 September.
