Before me, Cornelis van Tienhoven, secretary of New Netherland, appeared Hans Reyger from Norenborch,[1] a soldier who sailed in that capacity in the ship Bonte Lam, who appoints and empowers, as he does hereby, Jan Vienje, residing at Utrecht, to ask, demand and receive in his name from the honorable directors of the Chartered West India Company, chamber at Amsterdam, the sum of eighty-five guilders earned in Fort St. Louis de Marinhan in the service of the said director, as appears by the account annexed. On payment of said sum by their honors to the above mentioned Jan Vienje, he is authorized to execute a receipt for it in due form, [ the principal ] holding as valid whatever shall be done and transacted in the matter by the above named Jan Vienje or his substitute. Thus done and signed by Hans Ryger with Jacob Kip and Andries Tlmmelinc, as witnesses, the 8th of July anno in Fort Amsterdam, New Netherland.
