Before me, Cornelis van Tienhoven, secretary of NewNetherland appointed by the General Chartered West India Company,appeared Marritje Jans, widow of the late Dirck Cornelisz van Wensveen, with Jacob Couwenhoven and Govert Loockmans, her chosen guardians in this matter, who appoints and empowers, as she does hereby, Mr. Willem Turck and Mr. Seth Verbruggen to receive from the hands of the honorable Mr. Wolter van Twiller, formerly director general of New Netherland, all such power of attorney and account against the West India Company as the late Dirck Cornelisz has transmitted to the aforesaid Mr. van Twiller to collect payment thereof. The said account and power of attorney having been turned over and delivered by Mr. van Twiller to the attorneys, they may execute a receipt therefor and present the said account to the honorable directors of the General Chartered West India Company and demand, collect and receive payment of the moneys mentioned therein, execute a receipt for the payment, substitute one or more persons and in all things do and perform whatever she, Marritjen Jans, being present, could or might do, even though the case should require more ample and more specific authority than is inserted herein; she, Maritje, and her chosen guardians herein promising to hold and cause to be held valid whatever shall be done and transacted by her aforesaid attorneys or their substitutes that shall serve the purpose or the case may require. An authentic instrument hereof is requested. Thus done and signed in the record by the above named Maritje Jans and by Jacob Couwenhoven, her chosen guardian herein, together with Jacob Kip and [ ], as witnesses, the 29th of August A°. 1648, in Fort Amsterdam in New Netherland.
