Translation

Order to Commander Alriglis to Administer the Oath of Allegiance to the inhabitants of the South river.

Whereas, it is necessary that the inhabitants of the South river who have voluntarily submitted, shall take the oath of allegiance to their High Mightinesses the Lords States-General of the United Netherlands, and his Serene Highness the Prince of Orange, etc. Therefore the Honorable Governor-General of N. Netherland hath to that end commissioned and authorized Mr. Peter Alrighs to be Schout and Commandant of the South river aforesaid, who is hereby authorized to administer the oath of allegiance to all the inhabitants of said river, from Cape Hinlopen off unto the head of said river, both on the east and west banks, and by the first opportunity to make a report on his proceedings in the premises, accompanied by a correct list of the inhabitants dwelling there on said river. Dated Fort Willem Hendrick this 25th of September, 1673.
