Description

The intersection of the Amstel and the Singelgracht seen from the east towards the Westerblokhuis bulwark.

From left to right the corn mills De Haan on the Ouderkerk bulwark, De Hoop (only two sails) on the Reguliersbolwerk, De Wetering on the bulwark of the same name, the Utrechtsepoort and the corn mill De Groen on the Westerblokhuis.

Ice skating on the frozen canals was a popular winter activity.   The Little Ice Age in the 17th Century made this possible for several months of the year.
