Translation

Dirck Dircksen from Haerlem, late chief boatswain of the ship De Jonge Prins van Deenmarcken, appoints and empowers Jacob Wolphersz van Couwenhoven to ask, demand and receive from the honorable director general and council of New Netherland all such wages as Dirck Dircksz, according to his account, has earned on board the ship De Prins van Deenmarcken; also, 3 elephant's tusks, weighing, the three together, 78 lbs; which being obtained and received by Jacob Wolphersz, he shall have power to execute a receipt therefor in proper form, the principal further holding as valid whatever shall be done and performed by the aforesaid Jacob Wolphersz. Thus done and signed by Dirck Dircksz the 3d of May A° 1649, in New Amsterdam in New Netherland.
