To the honorable lord Petrus Stuyvesant, director general of New Netherland[i]

Nicasius de Sille, fiscal, respectfully gives information that before this and also yesterday several oral and written complaints have been brought to him by the commissaries, inhabitants, officers, soldiers and also by the Swedish nation, all being under your honor’s government, against Paul Jacquet, your honor’s late commander on the South River, as having conducted himself very improperly there in harassing the community, tormenting the aforesaid people, withholding pay from the soldiers,[ii] diminishing [ and destroying ] the Company’s property, [all of which is contrary to your honor’s orders; therefore the fiscal nomine officii requests that your honor will be pleased to allow that he may arrest the said Jacquet, attach his pay and property in order that the damaged parties may thus recover their losses.] Hereupon I await your honor’s favorable decision. Done the 23rd of May 1657 at Amsterdam in New Netherland.

(signed) Nicasius de Sille.
