[several lines lost] [ ] ken of this [ ] nde account both of merchants [ and servants ] of the Company, without the said accounts having been properly examined and approved of. Therefore, in order to prevent this and keep it from happening again in the future, the director general and councilors of N: Netherland hereby order and direct commissary and bookkeeper Carel van Brugge to neither book nor transport any accounts, whosoever they may be, nobody excepted, before such accounts are examined and approved by the lord director general and two commissaries from the council and signed by the said commissaries, on pain that the items that are found disputable or that may be removed, will come and remain at the expense of the said commissary and bookkeeper. Thus done at Fort Amsterdam in N: Netherland, the 25th of May 1658.
