Document: Notarial copy of a resolution of the states of Holland and Westfriesland that appeals should not be allowed from judgments pronounced in New Netherland

Was read at the session, a certain opinion by the Attorneys General Paats and Stryen, at the request of the honorable lords, the commissioned councillors, given upon the recent petition by Jan Clasz Heuklum cum suis, the owners of the ship named de Vaerwel, which was presented to their Great Mightinesses; and in addition it is made known that the aforesaid commissioned councillors had conformed with the aforesaid opinion, which therefore might be considered as the opinion of the aforesaid commissioned councillors, satisfying their Great Mightinesses' decision dated 20 June, last past, in which it can be seen that, after deliberation, it was resolved that a writ of appeal from judgments pronounced in New Netherland cannot conveniently and in no way ought to be granted by their High Mightinesses; and therefore that care be taken at the general assembly to revoke such a writ of appeal as Mr. Heyndrick vande Capelle
