The reply[1]

Dear Sirs:

Your letter dated the 20th of this month arrived at sunrise. In it we learned of the bad behavior of our drunken soldiers. Concerning attachment of their goods, this shall be done; also, I shall do my best to place them in confinement. Until now none of them has arrived here. I shall come to New Amstel this afternoon to speak to the others. In the meantime, I commend you to God's protection and remain.
