Noble, Honorable, highly Esteemed Lord:

As Peter Lourens has been held up until today by severe contrary winds, I can according to instructions, inform you of further developments in the matter. Yesterday afternoon I received the attached reply to my summons and protest which I enclose, because in the meanwhile I was persistent in requesting an answer on the 28th of this month, as well as requesting the same several times from the magistrates or commissioners of the court. I shall try again in the morning. If I do not succeed, it will be necessary to issue a counter-protest. I must be brief because I want to expedite this overland to New Amstel. Whereby I commend you to God's protection and shelter, remaining,

Your ever faithful servant, Willem Beeckman

Altena,30 July 1662
