Description
An anker was equal to 10.128 gallons of wine. This was possibly the amount of a smaller container.
A larger liquid measure was the aam, that was equal to 4 ankers. This was possibly the amount of a larger container that probably looked like a small barrel and might hold 40.512 gallons of wine.
The barrel liquid measure (vat in Dutch) was 243.072 gallons of wine; the equivalent of 4 hogsheads (okshoofden). So this would have likley referred to the huge barrels or casks that are often used to produce wine in Europe.
