This 200 ton fluyt was part of the Animal Fleet that sailed together to New Amsterdam. It must have been a miserable journey for the animals in the hold of this ship. The DWIC hired specialists to care for the animals on this trip, and we can imagine that their task was very challenging, especially in high seas. Very large animals like horses, oxen, cows, all held below decks in the darkness of the hold would have been very seasick, and very frightened in even a small storm.
