Tryntje Jonas was a midwife and nurse. She mentioned frequently in court records and her testimony was an important factor in some contested parentage cases. The position of midwife was particularly important to the success of the settlement. Women were encouraged to marry and have children, and the midwife was seen as the most important 'healthcare provider' of that time.
Her daughter married Reverend Bogardus.
